"Mortar blast near main US base in Afghanistan kills one"
KABUL (AFP) - A mortar blast near the main US military base in Afghanistan left a civilian dead while coalition forces killed an insurgent and dropped 2,000-pound bombs on a band of Taliban, officials said.Police were investigating whether the explosion a few hundred metres from Bagram Airfield north of Kabul was the work of insurgents from the ousted Taliban government, local police commander Abdul Rahman Sayedkhili said.
