By Enrico Galoppini. Translated for Axis of Logic from Italian by Mary Rizzo and Nancy Harb Almedras, Tlaxcala

As time goes by, losing the few certainties of my youth that had been inculcated in me since childhood from the dominant moral environment, I’ve convinced myself that the more you cast light on something, the more this something is absent. I think about ‘freedom’, a term that is subject to competing televised odes of the tightrope walkers of clever chatter, or of the multi-party ‘democracy’, a sort of socio-political totem around which the experts of the art of money-making dance.

Celebrated at every turn and omnipresent ornament to the perorations of the amateurs of the ‘better worlds,’ are also ‘human rights.’

“It’s true that we have a profusion of them,” a convinced champion of them tells me. “In fact, we have such an over-abundance that we have to ‘export’ them if we don’t want to drown in them. Yes, agreed, there will be neo-colonialism, but isn’t the pretext to allow every population to govern themselves as they see most fitting, giving themselves original laws and moral rules by chance not itself fruit of a paternalistic colonial vision? No, we can’t consider ourselves to be in the premiere league, enjoying the manna of ‘human rights’ while we leave the others to flounder in their ‘barbarianisms’. Then we will think about the ways to make the ‘exportation of human rights’ get along with the safeguarding of diversity, our Polaris (could you please give me a ‘racist’ to tear limb from limb?).”

“And if by chance they don’t want them?” I respond.

“What are you on about? If they are making resistance it is because they have never tried them, and at the least, with the ‘humanitarian bombings’, highly surgical to strike only Communists, Fascist nationalists and Fundamentalist Muslims, we will suppress the last pockets of resistance. Get a grip now, enough! What do you want? Exporting ‘human rights’ is a moral imperative. The entire staff of the White House suggests it, if they say it, it’s as good as a guarantee. If you simply don’t trust Bush and his associates, at least then trust the ‘left,” the NGOs, the missionaries, the student avant-garde and their sites of counter-information. But now, let’s get a move on, if we keep waiting, we’ll be late!”

Nothing doing. That fellow has not convinced me. Whenever I hear talk of ‘human rights’, I reach for my gun. No, dear new global democrats, don’t worry: there is no dangerous ‘Nazi’ that wants to shoot at your humanitarian holy card. It is because there are too many who, having heard ‘human rights’ invoked on their own skin, they prick up their ears and are ready with the barrel loaded after having come to know them. Three populations taken ‘at random,’ from the list of the most famous bad guys of the world: the Serbs, the Iraqis and the Cubans, who resist the assault of ‘human rights’, but who are certainly not willing to label themselves en bloc as ‘Nazis.’ These three peoples have never spoken nonsense regarding ‘human rights’ for hours and hours. They had them or they still have them, it was a real life experience, therefore, they didn’t need to waste their breath over them. Free education, from nursery school to the specialisation courses in university, free health services from aspirin to transplants, rights to a house and to a job. Seems like nothing: knowledge, health, home and work. Curiously, in all of the ‘Rogue States’ these ‘rights’ are guaranteed. They are the same ones that transmit trust in the future and safeguard the reproduction instinct.

But if you think that someone is going to explain in detail what these ‘human rights’ are by talking about education, health, homes and work, well then, you haven’t understood anything about ‘human rights’. ‘Human rights’ in the minds of the dull masses, are not those things that guarantee the rights of a collective group of people, but they are rather tied to individualistic instances, or – their degeneration – narcissistic ones, congenial to the society that ‘produces, consumes and then dies.’ Here are a few of them: the right to speak your mind (even on things that you are absolutely incompetent on and however these thoughts having a low distribution, limited to the old, dear cyclostyled pamphlets or internet lists that only a handful of people actually read), the right to ‘express’ always and everywhere one’s ‘real self,’ including the ‘sexual preferences’ (paraded beyond limits of decency and mental stability for our children), the right to the ‘free market business,’ that is, drowning in luxury and skinning your neighbour just as long as you come out first, straight up to the right to carry a gun, in full cowboy style!

These Pied Pipers of ‘human rights’, with their hysteric televised campaigns that are regularly amplified especially by the clowns that we call the ‘left’ (totally on a diet from ‘national’ culture) are the most devious allies in the planetary crimes that already had been at work in Nicaragua and Yugoslavia, now from Cuba to Venezuela and from Palestine to Iraq, the useful idiots are adulated as if they were major intellectuals first by their followers and then finally left to manage the mass of manoeuvres that have to impede the formation of a block for national sovereignty, without which it is useless to undertake any other ‘social’ discourse. Take a look at their sites that are full to the brim of scoops on ‘dissident’ Cubans, Iranians etc., and of petitions of every sort for the ‘women oppressed by Islam.’ If tomorrow morning Washington would put the Republic of San Marino on the blacklist, these sleepwalkers would come out with astonishing interviews of ‘dissidents’ on holiday in Rimini! Their utopian dream of a global ‘better world’ is the other side of the medallion upon which one would have the seal of the criminal triad that governs at Washington, London and Tel Aviv.

“No States, no nations, no borders…” they say: but have they got any idea that this cry only sounds like a variation on the preferred theme of those who they say they are fighting against? Or perhaps – and here I am starting to think bad thoughts – that these fools are being paid (in such a way that we won’t even raise any suspicions as to who is paying them) to announce the good news of the ‘globalisation of rights’… which then – after what has already been said – we haven’t quite understood if they are referring to the ‘right’ to see the university taxes go from the 300,000 lire that they were at the beginning of the 90s, to the current sums that can only make the head spin, to the expropriation of the beaches in the name of the myth that everything is a ‘service’ (and therefore one must pay to use it), to an insolently pervasive advertising present everywhere that rapes our urban panorama and makes everything insipid and false (from sport to films), to the magnificent ‘freedom’ of expression of the iron grip of the oligopoly composed of information and politics, to the hyper-regulation of every single thing (driver’s license with penalty points, revisions of licenses, etc.), designed each time to milk more money out of the same people and privileging those with the ‘right’ connections, to the gratifying ‘temporary jobs’ and to the new low wage hiring scouts of the private agencies…

Over the heads of the puppets in good and in bad faith, the strings of ‘human rights’ are being pulled by the multinationals, the stock market speculators and lobbies of every sort, that without the preliminary reductio ad hilterum of the leadership of those ‘Rogue States’ would not get away with robbing entire peoples of their sovereignty and their ‘rights’. Which are those things that, in complete liberty, from time to time, they choose to recognise and to defend when they are entrapped by the legions of hypocrisy.

Serbs, Iraqis, Cubans… take these liberties you are offered, even if there has been an abuse of power involved. But as to myself, what have I got to complain about? My insignificant vanity has been satisfied… even today I’ve said my piece. And I am really ‘happy’, because I have arrived at the purpose of life set by the United States Constitution, and therefore that of Humanity. And now, let’s export a bit of this ‘right’ even to the Iranians: happy ‘freedom of expression’ to you as well!

Human Rights Watch is a George Soros joint. The 'left' is either co-opted by the corporate imperialists or bamboozled by its own unexamined assumptions. 'Human Rights' are sold around the world as some sort of extra-national phenomenon, a set of 'values' to which all nations must subscribe, or rather, submit.

HRW, Amnesty International: they are noisy about some situations, deafeningly silent on others, not always or simply tools for the ruling class, but, as the author points out, a lot more concerned about individual liberties than about collective ones.

This individualism is celebrated as a great triumph of the Enlightenment, but even on its own terms, what does 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' look like in the United States? 'God help you if you're poor' is pretty much the bottom line. Housing is not guaranteed, health care is not guaranteed, employment is not guaranteed, an equal education is not guaranteed. The degree of free speech or freedom of religion depends on race, culture, and economic status. Tax dollars are devoted to ruthless imperial projects. As the article points out, freedom of speech is mainly the freedom to talk frivolous and hedonistic crap. I'm not dragged out of my house and arrested for the things I say, but the things I and others say have no material affect, so it's hard to see what this right really gives me other than the relief of self-expression, which in the order of things is not so much.

This article reminds us to always be suspicious about what NGO's and 'human rights groups' have to say. Anybody who's talking these days about 'no states, no nations, no borders' is at the very least playing right into the hands of the Total Global Domination-mongers.
