Title: Rebuilding a better, greener New Orleans Post by: three_sixty on July 20, 2006, 05:16:48 PM this is the folly of white perspective "environmentalism" - failure to address underlying socio-economic disparrity while trumpeting a "new era" of "environmental friendly" practices. in reality, this is about removing the poor in order to build up the dream city of the new world future. this is also the future of the globe - sustainable and organic means making large areas of land available for sustaining the privileged demand for "organic" and "natural" goods. green building after the poor have been "population controlled." environmentalists need to check themselves.

Today show Updated: 3:40 p.m. ET July 18, 2006 To help encourage environmentally-friendly building, Brad Pitt, along with Global Green, announced a sustainable design architectural competition for the areas of New Orleans devastated by Hurricane Katrina. It drew 3000 registrants from all over the world, six finalists were chosen. Check out the designs below, and watch video of Pitt, the “Today” show's Ann Curry, and Matt Petersen, president of Global Green USA, discuss the finalists. All six finalists responded in different ways to our goal of demonstrating how green design and good design can be brought together in an innovative way, thus ensuring that housing is truly affordable and healthy. All of the selected designs express a clear understanding of the need to address rising electricity and energy costs and mounting health problems caused by exposure to unhealthy building practices. Healthy, energy efficient homes and affordable housing often have no or little increased cost, yet provide vast benefits through lower energy and water bills, increased durability, and improved health of the residents. Title: Going Green Post by: three_sixty on July 20, 2006, 06:56:43 PM http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13768213/site/newsweek/?GT1=8307 (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/13768213/site/newsweek/?GT1=8307)
"Katrina, says Pope, "changed people's perceptions of what was at stake"—even though no one can prove that the hurricane was directly caused by global warming. All over America, a post-Katrina future is taking shape under the banner of "sustainability." * The words on all the privileged liberals lips these days is "have you seen Al Gore's movie?" The focus of this article remains on middle class and well to do white Americans. This reflects the "readership" or "market" for such publications as Newsweek. At the same time it shows also the focus of the rich movers and shakers who are now focussed on "environmentalism." How will green building, etc. effect poor people? Will their stake in the system change? The way this is framed, it presents itself as another trend for the hipsters to jump on to make them feel good about themselves. What does "sustainability" mean to a privileged person versus a poor person? What is trying to be "sustained?" So white mama gaia has got a posse. Adolf Hitler also was concerned about the environment. In fact, the National Socialists in Germany were one of the first administrations to pay attention to the environment as this was important to sustain the quality of life for the reich and the "master race." Some of the Nazis were also vegans . . . hoping to maintain that pureness in their body to be the masters - a technique they borrowed from "new age" gurus of the time interested in Tibeten and Indian "Aryan" practices. how far are the liberal hipsters from these ways . . . they will swear up and down they are different, but if the underlying systematic issues are not examined, and "useless eaters" are allowed to perish to make way for the glorious "green" future, who is fooling who?? |
