Somalia: US Continues Anti Terror Fight
The United States has insisted that it will continue supporting any group fighting elements of terrorism in Somalia.
US Assistant Secretary of African Affairs, Jerdazi Frazer said this amidst claims that the US has been funding warlords who are fighting with Islamist militias in the fresh wars that have erupted in Somalia.
“we supported everybody there who can provide us with information, it doesn’t matter whether you are an alliance or not an alliance, in government or not what we are trying to do is reach out to those who have information and develop relationship to get the information.” Frazer said
Frazer says the Islamic militias should stop their expansion in Somalia as it is raising questions of their motive.
However Frazer says the US does not support IGAD calls for International peace keepers to be deployed in Somalia.
“The best way to keep external forces out of Somalia is to stop their expansion because then they will not threaten their neighbors or create the need for IGAD and the AU to feel the need for an external force to support the transitional government.”
She added that the US is not anxious over Anti American sentiments.
Said she, “that always comes and goes but you find at the end of the day everybody wants America engaged, every body wants America to provide assistance and support.”
